Assessment for ADHD

For many people, seeking assessment for difficulties with attention and concentration is the first major step toward resolving personal, academic, occupational, and other problems and concerns. It is important to understand that although assessment can be highly beneficial and provide clarification for the issues you are facing, there are no guarantees. I understand that a decision to seek professional counsel and evaluation for problems related to attention is a difficult and important one – one that is never made lightly. As a psychologist, I strive to be my best as I aid in the exploration for solutions to your concerns throughout the assessment process.

Psychological assessment is a formal method applied to learning more about a particular problem or behavior and may include one or more of the following types of testing: psycho-educational evaluation (for example, academic achievement, cognitive functioning, intelligence); neuropsychological tests (for example, memory and executive functioning); and/or psychological assessment (for example, mood). Often times, documentation from a formal assessment is required for individuals to request academic, testing, or other accommodations based on an ADHD diagnosis.

In my practice, I provide comprehensive ADHD evaluations for individuals 17 years and older who are seeking testing for any of the following reasons:

  • Initial evaluation for possible ADHD diagnosis

  • Evaluation for updated documentation of previous ADHD diagnosis

  • Evaluation for school or standardized testing accommodations

A full comprehensive ADHD evaluation includes the following services:

  • Initial clinical interview (up to three 50-minute sessions)

  • Testing and assessment sessions (up to 16 hours)

  • Client feedback session (one 50-90 minute session)

  • Written comprehensive assessment report (including hours for scoring and report writing)

Dr. Abraham's Assessment Background

My training and experience in conducting psycho-educational and neuropsychological assessment comes from several years of working with college students, young adults, and adults to address a variety of attention and learning issues including: specific learning disorders (reading comprehension, reading fluency, written expression, and mathematics); ADHD; and learning disorders related to difficulties with foreign language acquisition. I completed my Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Southern California (USC) specializing in college mental health and disability services, where I conducted individual and group psychotherapy, as well as psychoeducational assessment, foreign language substitution evaluations, and support groups for students struggling to manage ADHD and other learning difficulties in college and graduate school. In addition to my experience at USC, I completed clinical training in neuropsychological assessment at a community mental health center providing comprehensive assessment for children, adolescents, and adults. In addition to my providing psychotherapy, I also currently conduct ADHD, Learning Disorder, and other assessment for adults and college students at University Park Psychological Associates, located near the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
